Breaks are an essential part of my design process. In between projects or even during one, I take a break if possible. It keeps my eyes fresh and limits my burnout.
Totally feel you on that post-project limbo. That “now what?” moment hits hard, even after a major win. At DotPoti.com, we often go through the same cycle—riding high on a project launch and then staring at the blank page like it’s a final boss.
This article is a fantastic resource for anyone working with a designer, offering clear, actionable advice for effective communication. The emphasis on specificity, collaboration, and leaving personal preferences aside resonates strongly with the need to prioritize project goals over individual tastes.
Key points like "avoiding micro-managing" and "sharing examples" are particularly insightful, highlighting the value of trusting a designer's expertise while also providing tangible direction when words might fail. I also appreciate the reminder to give balanced feedback—acknowledging what's working well can go a long way in building a positive and productive working relationship.
Overall, these tips make a compelling case for viewing the designer-client dynamic as a partnership, where clear communication is the cornerstone of great results. Well done, Kyle!

Graphic design is a powerful blend of creativity and communication! It transforms ideas into visual stories, making information more engaging and accessible. Being in a job that start at 8.30am all the way to 6pm, 6 days a week and a low pay in a fast pace country just makes you feel easily dejected, not feeling like your work is worth the time and not having time for yourself. Of course, i want to break away from my current reality but in a country where creatives are not appreciated(low pay, or higher pays being more harder to achieve due to the competition in the market) it's really not easy. Barely having time for yourself, how do you not feel stuck?
Rest first. Then consume content that is outside of your bubble. Algorithms keep you trapped in an echo chamber. Go out in public and ask real humans with headphones in what they are listening to. Real humans scrolling through social media who their favorite creator is or maybe go see a movie based on the recommendation of the cashier. Take advice from strangers and allow the universe to take you on a new ride. Here are some of my favorites right now:
The album: Superbloom by Silent planet
The art style: Grease pencil on Blender
The book: The Creative act A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
Remember that the universe requires balance in all things. You must empty your mind to allow new information to inspire you. You may be done with this chapter, but ultimately its not about your best work, its about finding comfort in the process so instead of wondering if your best work has come to light, try and maintain your creative rituals and remain open to new information.
I find a deep sense of calm reading your news letters because they are generally a vulnerable take that not many humans are willing to share. Thank you as always Jesse <3
I’m in the middle of a year long personal project. Making a poster for each Japanese micro season. I’m loving the project but I am worried nothing will top it.
Current projects: 6-9 corporate art projects. On 2/9 The Fox Theater and extensive scope of vision.
My website ofc lol, those moments when e-commerce seems like the ultimate solution.
Business coordinating for long term milestones that involve art porter specifications.
I focus on work life balance. I’m one those driven ppl who can go past burnout to certain death(s). I gotta ease up and rest. I stay in love with my flow state by focusing on discipline. It’s easier the more reflection I can experience.
Whenever I have a random project/idea/concept I want to try but maybe don't have the time in the moment to explore it, I write it down on a list. Then when I run out of ideas I turn to the list! But going to the library, galleries, museums, and talking with peers and hearing what they're working on helps spark ideas too.
When I feel like I ran out of ideas I either 1. Enjoy my leisure activities i.e. watch my favorite show which sometimes sparks some fun new ideas or 2. Revisit old ideas that didn’t pan out.
