YT Shorts Going to Take Over
So if you're already a creator of some sort you have probably heard about the new update YouTube is rolling out for shorts. So YouTube has the best revenue-sharing system out of any platform and now they are going to implement that same structure into YouTube Shorts. What does that mean???
Well... basically similar to long-form videos you'll get a share of the ad revenue on the content you make with varying CPMs. This is a HUGE step for creators, designers, artists, and more because all the other sites like TikTok and IG only have a creator fund.
The problem with a creator fund is that the amount of money allocated for the creators is finite so if the fund has 100 million dollars in it the more people who make stuff the less slice of the pie each person gets, ya feel?
With the ad revenue sharing model YT uses and shorts will soon in January 2023, the amount of money to be made is infinitely scalable as long as YT continues to have ads ( don't worry it will lol).
Soooooooo the reason I am so excited about this is not only to continue growing my own YouTube channel and experiment with shorts but for all of you.
If you are currently making short-form content on IG or TikTok PLEASE UPLOAD TO YT SHORTS. You can literally repurpose everything you already have and space it out over months. I suggest either starting now, sometime in December to ramp up right before the update, or at the very least waiting until the January update goes live.
If you aren't making content because it doesn't pay, seems pointless, or you just can't be bothered, well ya know what that's totally fine. However, if you were looking for an excuse to start trying it out, There literally hasn't been a better opportunity to this date.
I know a lot of us designers and artists don't wanna be a slave to these social media sites and just labeled as "Content Creators" but if you just look at it as an avenue, or alternate source of income to give you more opportunities to do what you really want then it makes things a lot more motivational and pleasant.
At the end of the day do whatever you want, but these sites are at literal WAR for our attention. Every day they want you to use their app exclusively and instead of complaining about how much IG sucks now, I suggest you spread the love around and don't put all your eggs in one basket. From now on I am going to try and post my short form design content on IG Reels, Pinterest, YT Shorts, and TikTok.
Sorry for the long rant but I really think this can be a big opportunity for a bunch of us and I would LOVE to see the graphic design community grow ever more on youtube.
