Hey friends
Hope you all are doing well this week. I am actually getting around to writing this newsletter on Friday this week, I usually wait till the last minute. I haven’t had many sophisticated ideas to chat about, but here are some thoughts and updates.
Takin’ the Pressure Off
If I’m being completely honest, lately I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with writing this newsletter. Between this, the youtube channel, Instagram and client work I feel like I only have so much to say on a given week and don’t want to waste y’alls valuable time.
With that being said I think I might need to lighten the load a bit and just start writing more about whatever I want and as long or as short as I see fit that week.
I think sometimes I overthink this thing because I am trying to jam design concepts or complex thoughts on creativity into my everyday life.
Recently though my life hasn’t been all about design and I have honestly not been working on much client work so I’d be an imposter to write about that design process stuff when it ain’t going on at the moment.
I hope it’s cool with y’all if some other random topics and life stuff outside of just design and art pop into this newsletter.
I would also love to hear what you like about the newsletter so far or what topics/ideas you would want me to cover in the future?
All input is welcome!
I started this newsletter as a way to connect with you all outside of the social media algorithm, build an email list, and also just get my thoughts out. So in 2024, we doubling down on that sentiment.
I think I also haven’t had enough big ideas to split between YouTube video concepts and the newsletter because I’m kind of in my “enjoying life” era.
I talked to my friend Kat about this because we are both going to this upcoming creator camp trip and We were just chopping it up about how this is the “anti burnout/enjoying life era”
I spent way too long either not having enough money or time to do the fun things I want and I’m only getting older so no better time than the present.
That is the privilege of being a freelancer or self employed creative right?
Being able to work when and how I want.
I sometimes get guilty around the idea of taking work off but at the end of the day, I need to go out and live new experiences to not only help inform my later creative work but just in an effort to be happy.
Life Lately
I haven’t been doing anything too crazy but I have been opening myself up to spontaneity more and just saying yes to things.
I still dig my routine though, even when it’s leisure activities. Every thursday I hit trivia at this local brewery by my house and it’s honestly a simple and fun thing to nerd out on and have to look forward to each week.
I even joined their “mug club” that makes it so every time I order a beer I get a big mug instead of a pint glass lol. Probably not the best investment for my health but wactha gonna do.
Speaking of health I have actually been on my shit lately. I got sick way too many times in 2023 and I can’t let that be happening this year with all the trips I have planned.
I have been eating better, going climbing twice a week, and on my morning green juice flow.
It honestly feels so good on the days I eat clean meat protein, hit the climbing gym, and don’t drink at night.
Who would have thought doing healthy things makes you feel good lol.
I also got a Kindle recently!
I used to be so anti-kindle because I felt the point of reading a book was feeling the tactile pages and disconnecting from any kind of electronics.
but…
this thing fucking rules. It has been keeping me off my phone more because it’s so light I can carry it around and whip it out whenever I have free time.
I’m only on my first book on it so maybe this honeymoon phase will end, but for now it’s pretty sweet.
Let me know if there are any books I should be reading
Oh yeah and if you want a new playlist to listen to, check out this guest playlist I did for Lauren Scarlett’s playlist series Wetsuit Radio. Also a Q&A on the IG Post
Other than that, here are a few images from life lately.
I hope you all are living well also and thank you for seemingly being down for whatever I wanna share with you all on the internet.
Much love, Glue 🧡
