Quick to Consume
Hey Friends
How is it hanging this week? I had to take my mind off the internet this past week and work on some physical collage stuff.
Are TikTok, Shorts & Reels really the future?
I think I hate TikTok and reels partially because I love em. There’s no denying that short-form video content is engaging and easy to get into cuz the barrier to entry is so low. Every time I vow now to make any more TikToks or reels I see a designer do something cool with it and wanna participate.
I think inherently visual artists all have such a distain for this short for video sector of social media not because they are wack by default but because it makes our lizard brains less interested in static images. As designers, our bread and butter is still static design work so that can hurt the ego sometimes when your posts flop.
I also make long-form video on YouTube which I think is a lot more fulfilling but there is def a world where both can coexist. I’ve had some short form stuff perform well in the past and I think I may give it another shot when I’m feeling inspired, like this one I made for my Skatin not Stirred collage series.
I think at the end of the day it’s not about turning into videographers or animators but trying our best to use the tools we’re given to get more eyeballs on our work. That’s what it’s all about when it comes down to it. You don’t gotta make a meme or do a Fortnite dance, try out some video that shows your work. Or don’t… as I’ve said before, If you can’t be bothered to make videos I don’t blame you, do what works best for you… however, I don’t wanna see you complaining on your Instagram story.
Below are some creators who I think are doing cool things in the short form video world, so go check em out!
New Stuff Coming your Way
I just finished recording a new solo podcast yesterday plus a BONUS episode that will go live the same day on Patreon! The solo ones are always fun but def a lot more Intimidating cuz I have to fill all the air with my ramblings.
I want to do more of them and 1-2 a month on the Patreon! We are getting closer to our goals for me to justify doing that, so if you want to support me, the podcast or the channel signing up for the PATREON would do just that! Also, it’s only $3 a month which is cheaper than coffee these days with all the inflation😅
If times are tight tho I understand and no pressure y’all. One way you can support the podcast and help new people see it is by leaving a review on Apple Podcasts, or liking/sharing the YouTube podcasts!
Enough plugging haha. I’m all serious thank you always for all your love and support with the stuff I do❤️
Stuff I currently like and stuff I'm looking forward to!
