Hey Friends
Hope you are all living well and welcome to anyone that is new here. Your boy was featured on the substack home page last week and I got this cool little badge lol
Another App…

Just as I was feeling good about my screen time and the relationship between my design craft and social media, Papa Zuck had to go and drop the new threads app.
As much as I wanted to hate it and not run to adopt any new shiny technology that drops, Threads is pretty amazing so far.
It is giving high school Twitter
When I first got on Twitter I loved how it felt like a tight-knit community and kind of like the wild west. The threads app (in its current state) feels just like that.
I am able to actually reach my audience and engage with fellow designers without being bombarded by a short-form video and Sponsored Ad every few seconds.
I’m sure Facebook... I mean “META” will find a unique way to ruin it, but for now, I’m having fun.
Go connect with me on there if ya feeling like it.

It’s funny that a new social media dropped right when I made a video about “Content as an artist” on my second channel.
I still stand by that and love creating content around art and design but all the apps are getting a bit overwhelming.
I think the expansion of the design universe when it comes to social does give an opportunity though for us to niche down.
You can stay true to the static posts with things like threads and Twitter
Double down on the mega virality of short form with reels and TikTok
Or go against the Meta a bit (Pun intended) with long-form content like youtube, podcasts, and live streams.
The silver lining in this chaotic online space is that people are able to carve out their own communities in an array of ways and I love that.
My trouble is feeling like I need to run to each new one right away. Besides threads, no new app has really hit that dopamine instantly in the way we are all seeking.
Have you tried it out yet?
I’m pretty happy with where I’m at right now though. I mean shit, this newsletter has been one of my favorite things to do each week and we just got featured, so I’m stoked to connect with more of you all.
I’ve spoken about this in past issues but I think I just want to continue to double down on producing high-quality youtube content, working with rewarding clients and just enjoying my life outside of the design sphere as well.
I would love a world where designers and artists could “ALL” succeed without slaving away at these social media apps. I think the reality though is you have to find a way to separate yourself from the crowd and social media has proven one of the most effective paths.
We can’t even agree on that though so who knows what the future holds.
Designer Trading Cards
This week I uploaded a video where I designed trading cards of some of my favorite artists and designers.
It was such a fun video to design, produce and finish. It took a bit longer than usual but since it was so design-intensive and heavier edited, publishing it felt that much more rewarding.
I spoke about this last week but I am really trying to focus on that delayed gratification in the work and with my online pursuits.
I used to be so worried about getting a video out every week or posting on Instagram 3-5 times a week that I think i lost sight of the real goal.
CREATIVE EXPRESSION
I want to produce things that I am genuinely proud of not just catering to the algorithm or what will pop cuz it’s trending
*cough cough AI ART VIDEOS
It was fun to put myself into the mindset of other famous designers and try to create cards that represented their unique style.
I owe a lot to these legends of the craft and hopefully did them justice.
Anyway
I had a great time making this video and would love it if y’all checked it out.

Much Love, Glue.
More Social Media, More Problems
Congrats on getting featured !! I just started following you on here several weeks ago and you have inspired me to start my own newsletter to express some of my thoughts.
As for threads I’m not sure how to feel about it because either I will need to produce more content for the internet or keep trying to reshape content across multiple platforms getting somewhat repetitive. We’ll see though 🤷🏼♂️
So much talk about Threads and I cant even try it out to see if its good or not 😭
