Happy Holidays Peoples
Hey Friends
Hope everyone is doing well. The holidays are almost here, what are all of you up to this December? I myself am scrambling around trying to get work done before the holidays. Sometimes the idea of not having to do work for a few days stresses me out as much as being slammed with hella work.
Gift Ideas
Christmas is coming up and it got me thinking about all the cool stuff I’ve gotten over the years. It also reminded me of the not-so-great Christmas gifted I’ve received haha. We all know us designers and creatives can be pretty picky with Christmas gifts. However when we find stuff we like we can’t get enough of it. So if you are shopping for your favorite designer this holiday or even want to get a little something for yourself then I’ve got you covered. I made a list you can access here that has all kinds of goodies designers like. Everything from my favorite mechanical keyboard, to pocket notebooks, and even the trusty old laser printer. Can’t forget them design books either, expensive, take up a lot of space, but oh so good to look at. Again check this link to scope out the list:)
Remixing Old Work
Above is a poster I created based off an old design I had from earlier this year. Lately, I have been feeling pretty stressed out trying to balance freelance work, the holidays, youtube, the podcast and everyone favorite Instagram. It can be pretty stressful trying to keep up with Instagram and pump out “content”. I feel like there is a lot of pressure for designers to post work every day practically or we get punished by big daddy Zuckerberg. I don't think we should worry about posting finished work online every day, However I am a believer in working consistently on design work to improve your skills. So what I have been doing is if I’m working on some designs that may take me longer than 1 day or maybe I’m just not feeling too inspired I’ll rework some old work or share some stuff from the archives. The internet is so quick to consume and quick to forget. It’s okay if you reshare older stuff once in a while or share some Work in progress or even some cool behind the scenes stuff. Don’t get too stressed out about making everything you share online a masterpiece. This strategy has helped me keep my sanity but also not get annihilated by the algorithm. Remember done is better than perfect.
Turnstile Takes Over Late Night
So this past week I collaborated on a poster with my friend Bersletters. You may remember her from the podcast we did early on or even seen her amazing work on Instagram. She does super cool typographic stuff with a rough handwritten feel to it. We both really dig the hardcore band Turnstile so making a poster for them was a no-brainer. Above is a sneak peek of it before I post it to the world tomorrow. This couldn’t have come at a better time either because turnstile played on late-night Seth Meyers show this past week which was awesome. I was stoked to see them on tv because it was a win for the hardcore and punk scene. It also doesn't hurt to have some buzz around one of my favorite bands right before we post our collab.
Thank You:)
I shipped out a decent amount of prints the last few weeks and I just wanted to thank anyone who ordered for the love and support. It has been a blast seeing people send me photos of them framing and hanging up their prints. If you wanna get some for yourself you can check out the store here! I genuinely do appreciate the support though and all of the profits from print sales are going towards paying off my student loans. This ain’t a sob story or for you to feel bad either I just want you to know your hard earned cash is going towards paying off my debt not some shitty ape NFTs or anything like that;)
