Grit & Gratitude
Hey Friends
My weekly ritual of writing the newsletter never feels dull. Today I am writing from the office and drinking a nice cup of coffee from my subscription with Trade coffee.
Existential Newsletter Segment
Sometimes I write these newsletters and I'm not sure if the content is what everyone is looking for. Half the time I don't have anything super significant to bring up, or there isn't really "News" in the design world that interests me.
Are y'all interested in just hearing me share whatever is on my mind at the moment If so that is awesome and if not feel free to send me some feedback on stuff you may want to be included in future issues.
At the end of the day though I don't think anything at the moment would get me to stop writing this newsletter. Worst case scenario it's like a journal the only difference is people online can read it lol. It has been just as rewarding and therapeutic for me as anyone out there reading this thing. Looking into my growth over the past year has made me feel very grateful for all of you especially the real ones on the newsletter and the patreon. We are up to over 500 of y'all on the newsletter!
Numbers Game

I shared this little statline on Twitter and IG the other day. I recently hit 100 patrons and it got me thinking about what the growth has been for the other platforms over the year.
First of all, this ain’t a flex of numbers, audience, or any type of artistic merit. But I do believe it is a flex in a sense of discipline, consistency and grit.
Sooooooooo many reasons for me to stop publishing weekly YouTube videos or almost 100 podcasts or almost daily Ig posts but I had to do it. Covid and my freelance journey sparked a fire in me that would not be diminished until I saw RESULTS.
I am nowhere near where I wanna be with my freelance career, YouTube content, or other endeavors but I know I am on the right track.
It feels good to start reaping the rewards of all of my hard work. The whole point of doing the “content” side of things was to be a reliable source of inspiration, income, and pretty much just shit to do in the absence or coexisting with my freelance design work.
As I’ve said in a few past newsletters too it’s been a dry spell recently with any meaningful freelance projects so having this stuff finally be of any type of significant income is pretty fucking cool.
Don’t get it twisted though, it ain’t all about the money ( only earned like $500 from content in 2021 lol) so I’m doing it for the love of the game but the small income doesn’t hurt
All this to say, find something that you love to do and keep at it even when it feels like you are getting nowhere, a good thing might be around the corner. Don’t let that negative voice in your head win.
Some BTS Stuff
I wanted to share some more behind-the-scenes stuff and throw away scans and whatnot. I try to do it here and there but seeing its tweet by Bers reminded me.
So much stuff has gone unused, thrown away, or just failed attempts in both my client work and personal work.
I have been archiving a bunch of my work over the years lately so I was really in the weeds with some stuff I haven't seen or thought about in a while.
Anyway check it below
