Gratitude
Hey friends
In the spirit of the holidays, I wanted to share some thoughts on gratitude. I have so much to be grateful for these days, even when I can lose site on that during the hard times.
6 things I’m grateful for
My Health
This one should be obvious but in a world with so much hurt and disease being able to do whatever I want for the most part is amazing.
I am eternally grateful to have a healthy body that usually gets wasted sitting at a computer all day lol.
On the real though the past year I have been doing a lot more physically and feeling better for it. I think as designers who hunch over looking at a screen most of the day, it’s important to get moving.
I have been doing a lot of rock climbing, going for walks, and playing basketball.
The only thing I have going on is my old man knee that hurts me from time to time. If that’s the biggest issue though I think I’ll be alright.
Take care of yourself
Get rest
Find balance
Move your body
My career
Man my career has been a roller coaster so far.
I never thought at 26 my main focus would be freelancing with clients and posting videos to YouTube.
This has been my best year yet as a designer and I’m so excited to see where my freelance journey takes me next.
Graphic designers tend to complain a lot and self-deprecate online, but I think if we’re being real it’s one of the coolest jobs out there.
We get to create cool things and share them with the world. Like any job, it has its challenges but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
Wherever you are in your creative journey, keep at it.
You can only fail if you stop trying.
My partner
I’m grateful for my wonderful partner Erika.
She has been there for me through the ups and downs. She is one of the most supportive and loving people I have ever met.
We have been together since we were 16 and have been through so much growth.
I think it’s so nice to have someone who will ride or die for you when freelancing out here. She is hair stylist who works for herself too so we have that mutual understanding and respect for each other’s careers.
Find someone to love and love you, and it just makes everything better.
If you’re reading this, I love you most baby🖤
My family
On my dad’s side, it’s a classic huge Mexican family. My dad has 9 other brothers and sisters so it gives me so many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We used to get together so much when I was younger but as time goes on it gets a little more sparse.
For a while, I forgot to appreciate those times and didn’t put in quite enough effort.
When I lost my mom in 2020 it was one the saddest times of my life. However, a silver lining is that it brought me closer to my pops and the rest of the fam.
I’m so grateful to have people like my aunt on my mom’s side who has helped me so much in this journey and the rest of my dad’s huge family who have always been supportive.
Family is tricky and it can be dark and disruptive at times. I think it’s good to learn grace and patience though to try your best and all gel together.
This past Thanksgiving dinner was nice and I hope everyone else found some peace in the holidays too.
My friends
I can’t imagine where I would be without having friends to talk to all the time.
Whether it be in person or digitally in the many group chats and discord servers for gaming.
Friends have always been a huge focus for me, especially when other areas of my life wasn’t doing so hot.
I am grateful to have 3-4 different friend groups that I can hang out with and enjoy different hobbies, interests and overall lifestyles.
If any of the homies are reading this, you know who you are and y’all are loved.
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and wish you all the best in the rest of 2023
