Glue's Letter - The Start of Something New

Hey Friends,

Glad you are here for the first-ever week of my newsletter, I hope to get it to you every week. If I don't, sorry in advance. First off thank you to all the amazing newsletter name submissions I received on Instagram. Y'all are super creative and I appreciate it. The winner hands down was "Glue's Letter", I love it and I think it will stick:)

Looking forward to new stuff!

Not sure how good I will be at this but I'm happy to have you here along for the ride. The past couple of weeks I have really been getting into my side hustle strategies, especially selling prints, and have a new Youtube video ranking all of the side hustles I've ever tried coming out on Tuesday. Doing stuff on the side for money has been super helpful to me over the last few years but also can create burnout. I'm sure many of you have felt burnout creatively sometime this past year and I need to be careful to make sure it doesn't happen and I can finish off the year strong.

Avoiding Burnout

When I do get burnt out however, good music always helps me feel better. My favorite album this past week has been Unlearning Vol.1 by Evidence. Some absolute lyrical genius in there to get your creative juices flowing and your mind recharged. Let me know what you think!

Trying to read more books

Lately, I have been giving my best effort to read more books. I also recently finished this amazing book called Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. It really put into perspective all the negative relationships I have with technology. I have been trying a lot more to limit my social media use, read more books, and spend quality time with friends/family. If you want to live a more intentional and less distracted life, I would definitely check it out.

Great chat with Nigerian digital artist Temi Coker

One thing that inspired me this week was the amazing conversation I had with Temi Coker on my Podcast. I met Temi online a few months back when he complimented one of my Instagram Reels. We talked about everything from being an Adobe creative resident, working with the Oscar's and most importantly empowering other black creatives.

It was very insightful to hear Temi talk about how important it is to paint important black figures in a beautiful light. Growing up as a half-white half-Mexican male in California I always saw people of my skin color all over the news, movies, and in positions of power. Temi explained to me how it's so much different growing up as a black person from Nigeria and it really put things into perspective for me. After Chatting with Temi It made me even more proud to see all he's accomplished.

Some Final Thoughts

Things like that are what make me so excited about podcasting, I always leave the calls with my guest feeling like I not only made a new friend but learned something immensely valuable. If you want to make some more design friends you can always join and chat in the Sticky Design Discord Server! That's all for now:)

Have a great week!
