Hey friends
Last week I was out camping. Recharging and resetting. Ready to get back into things though!
Practicing what I preach
I talk a lot on here and on YouTube about allowing yourself time to rest, relax, and disconnect from the internet world.
However
I feel like I don’t always practice what I preach. It’s so easy for me to give that advice to others and sometimes it comes from me ironically burning the candle at both ends to get that message out.
This past weekend I went on a little camping trip with my girlfriend and friends to Catalina. If you ain’t from SoCal, Catalina is this mini island you can take a boat ride to from Long Beach.
I was so busy coming up to the trip I totally forgot to write last week’s newsletter. At first, I was panicking and if I had my computer and Wi-Fi I probably would have whipped it out.
Once I realized I would have to skip that week though, it wasn’t the end of the world and I just enjoyed being away from technology.
What’s crazy though is since I started this newsletter in October 2021
I HAVEN’T MISSED A SINGLE WEEK!
(Up until now of course)
So even tho I had to accept the reality last week, I’m pretty proud of myself for my consistency and discipline.
I don’t feel like I have super high self-esteem in many ways like my social skills, design work (at times), video production, etc.
One thing I am always super aware of though is that I have great discipline and have always been a self-starter.
I think that trait is so important and is the number 1 factor in my success as a freelancer and content creator online.
Grateful for YouTube and other avenues
I never thought when I started posting on IG consistently and pressing publish on YouTube, that it would turn into such a thriving part of my career.
I’m so grateful that I had the urge to start putting myself out there more.
Don’t get me wrong it took a while, I didn’t start generating any kind of revenue u too after posting to YouTube for 20 months!
However
Now that the content side of things is starting to finally hit its stride it has opened up so many opportunities for myself that I could have never imagined.
From brand deals to getting invited to the Adobe HQ, the feeling I have is very proud of myself with a hint of imposter syndrome
The best part overall though about having this other side of my business is that it allows me to be more intentional with my client work.
Since I no longer “NEED” every client that comes into my inbox it allows me to be more selective and truly only work on the projects that Interest me.
That is an incredible feeling and position to be in. Not only do I get to work on the most rewarding stuff but since I avoid any red flag type of clients, it’s less likely for me to generate resentment for design.
Nothing makes you regret your career choice like a 5th logo revision lol
I hope you all are well and living large in your own right.
